Entre Nosotras - Women's Peer Interaction

Entre Nosotras (or Amongst Women) was created in 2009 with the goal of providing a safe space for women of Latina heritage to gather, celebrate, and support one another.

For over a year, La Paz conducted a series of “platicas” (or thematic conversations) to better understand the reality of our Latina participants. Through these gatherings, we learned that many women felt isolated with a lowered sense of self-esteem. Some reported having experienced violence or other forms of abuse in the home.

Since that time, Entre Nosotras has focused on the social and emotional health of female heads of households, in order to address the needs of the group. In 2011, La Paz was awarded a grant through the Office of Violence Against Women to address the issue of domestic violence in a culturally and linguistically specific approach. With the help of its participants, the program has grown to include exercise, arts and crafts, and interactive peer groups with topics on parenting, healthy relationships, and stress management.

Entre Nosotras also has a dynamic group of Lideres Comunitarias (or community leaders) who assist with group coordination, class facilitation, and hosting the platicas. Enrollment for this part of the program is open at the beginning of each year and requires a service commitment as well as regular attendance to the trainings held once a month.
