Hiring: Bilingual Navigator, Youth Homelessness Demonstration Project (YHDP)

La Paz Chattanooga is the leading Latino organization in southeast Tennessee. The organization seeks an additional bilingual, bicultural team member with exceptional social service skills.The ideal candidate will have experience interacting in a respectful manner with individuals of diverse backgrounds and hold a commitment to the advancement of the Latino community. Fluency in Spanish and English is required.

Position Description & Responsibilities: Bilingual Navigator, Youth Homelessness Demonstration Project (YHDP) will conduct navigation services and work with assigned youth and/or youth-headed families to assess their identified needs and provide referrals, education, assistance, and advocacy.


● Effectively conducts outreach and navigation to runaway, homeless, and street dependent

youth and engages these youth into program services

● Conducts outreach in areas that homeless youth congregate throughout the year

● Collaborates effectively with the local homeless services continuum of care, coordinated entry system and homeless services providers

● Provides assessment, crisis intervention, individual, family, and group services to children,

youth, and families

● Connects client(s) with housing and shelter resources and obtains necessary paperwork and documentation

● Identifies needs with client(s) and completes individualized goal plan

● Provides effective crisis management

● Effectively links clients with appropriate community resources and advocates for client needs

● Participates in actively soliciting feedback from program participants through distributing

satisfaction surveys or other approved means

● Plans for client discharge/termination in coordination with client(s) and other providers

● Effectively presents program curricula for classes or groups

● Other duties as assigned

The ideal candidate:

● Bilingual in Spanish and English as well as cultural understanding and awareness required

● Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain appropriate professional boundaries in working with others and in handling confidential information

● Since position requires frequent driving to various job sites to provide services, a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, current auto insurance, and clean driving record are required

● Ability to feel comfortable and safe providing outreach services to transient populations in

various locations

● Since position requires assisting clients in furnishing their living quarters, occasional lifting or moving furniture may be requested, but no specific physical capabilities or lifting requirements are required

● Computer and technological skills necessary to complete program paperwork, keep accurate and timely case records, enter and retrieve client information on a database, use agency email, and locate information on the internet

● Knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, etc.)

Position & Compensation: The Bilingual Navigator - YHDP is a full time role earning $36,000 a

year. Additionally La Paz provides a health and communications stipend totaling $350 a month, vacation/PTO benefits; health stipend; vision/dental insurance; paid winter holiday. Position may require evening hours and weekends, so that services can be provided at times and locations most convenient to clients.
