LATINO FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER
In 2013 the City of Chattanooga gave La Paz the title of Latino Family Resource Center. We take this title very seriously, acting as a guide and connector for Latinx families. Whether they're seeking help with day-to-day tasks or advice on how to navigate the heavy stuff, our Social Impact staff works tirelessly to advocate for them and empower them so they can thrive in their community.
Our staff welcomes walk-ins and appointments to help guide families to the assistance they need, ensuring that they receive services from us in a respectful and culturally appropriate manner. Often they seek to merely learn about resources available to them in the city, or need help to fill out paperwork such as health insurance applications, school forms, rental leases, SNAP renewals, etc. In many cases, our staff acts as a liaison between clients and other resource agencies in the area to guarantee nothing is lost in translation.
RESOURCE & INFORMATION
These workshops are a collaboration between Compañía and La Paz’s Social Impact department, designed to empower and educate all Latino community members through knowledge. By empowering Compañía members to user their talents and expertise to teach other individuals new skills and tools to improve their lives, both parties gain leverage to become more engaged in their respective communities.
LEGAL & CIVIC OUTREACH
Part of our ongoing mission at La Paz is to ensure our clients are informed citizens. We do that in part by providing opportunities for families to learn about important topics regarding their safety as community members, and engaging others in a way that strengthens the community at large. We hold periodic community safety meetings, legal assistance workshops, educational outreach sessions, and host an annual mobile Guatemalan consulate.
We believe every client that walks in our doors deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, and that the more avenues for interconnectivity that exist in our city, the better we can be at caring for the ones who need it most.
