Q: Can you share a little about your professional background? 

A: I graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in Communications and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. Ever since I moved to the United States, I knew that I wanted to connect people through language. My initial goal was to become an interpreter, but while transferring from Pellissippi State Community College to UTC after getting my associate’s degree, I realized how much I loved making videos and decided to pursue a career in this field. From that point on, I told myself that I would incorporate my culture and my community in the content that I create.

Q: What led you to join the team at La Paz? How long have you been with the organization? 

A: In 2023, as I was looking for places to do my internship, I wanted to find a place where I could incorporate both of my passions: the Spanish language and content creation. Naturally, through guidance and motivation from UTC and family, I contacted Lily, Communications and Development Manager at the time, for an opportunity to intern during the summer. 

Once I completed my internship, I was hired in August 2023 as a part-time Communications Specialist. After a year and a half of learning curves, finding my style, and coming out of my shell to grow as a creative producer, I was promoted to full-time Communications Coordinator in 2025.

Q: Tell me a little about the work you do each day. Feel free to share a story or vignette that highlights your contributions to the team! 

A: My role consists of managing La Paz’s social media accounts, creating the content shared on our organization’s behalf, keeping the website up to date, and many more things! Even though I’m behind a screen most of the time, I have the privilege of letting my creativity flourish through my work. 

One of my favorite tasks is photographing the events and programs at La Paz. I love connecting with community members and being able to capture special moments they get to share with the rest of the community and our staff. My passion is to share the emotions and experiences of the Latino community with respect, dignity, and integrity.

Q: What excites you the most about the future of La Paz and the work you do? 

A: Connecting with Latinos in Chattanooga and beyond! I look forward to ALL of our big events, programs, and community gatherings because I get to connect with the Latinos from all over the state and Georgia! It fills me with joy that La Paz is able to provide the space for the community to meet and be authentically themselves. 

Q: What’s one thing you wish every member of the Chattanooga community knew about La Paz or the people it serves? 

A: That we are all more similar than most think of! At the end of the day, we all strive for a safe home, a loving and stable family, and the right to express ourselves freely. Even though we come from different backgrounds and traditions, we are all people who deserve to be cherished, celebrated, and taken care of. 

Q: Finish this sentence: When I’m not at work, I can be found ________________.

A: Supporting my boyfriend at his soccer games, hanging out with friends, or just staying home crocheting!

P: ¿Puedes compartir un poco sobre tu trayectoria profesional?

R: Me gradué de la Universidad de Tennessee en Chattanooga en 2024 con una Licenciatura en Comunicaciones y una Licenciatura en Español. Desde que me mudé a Estados Unidos, supe que quería conectar a las personas a través del lenguaje. Mi meta inicial era ser intérprete, pero mientras me transfería de Pellissippi State Community College a UTC, después de conseguir mi título asociado, me di cuenta de cuánto me encantaba hacer videos y decidí seguir una carrera en ese ámbito. Desde ese momento, me prometí que incorporaría mi cultura y mi comunidad en el contenido que creara.

P: ¿Qué te llevó a unirte al equipo de La Paz? ¿Cuánto tiempo llevas en la organización?

R: En 2023, mientras buscaba lugares para hacer mi pasantía, quería encontrar un espacio donde pudiera incorporar mis dos pasiones: el español y la creación de contenido. Naturalmente, con el apoyo y la motivación de UTC y de mi familia, contacté a Lily, quien en ese momento era la Gerente de Comunicaciones y Desarrollo, solicitando una oportunidad de hacer mi pasantía durante el verano.

Una vez que terminé mi pasantía, fui contratada en agosto de 2023 como Especialista en Comunicaciones a medio tiempo. Después de un año y medio lleno de aprendizajes, encontrando mi estilo y saliendo de mi zona de confort para crecer como productora creativa, fui promovida a Coordinadora de Comunicaciones a tiempo completo en 2025.

P: Cuéntame un poco sobre el trabajo que haces cada día. ¡Siéntete libre de compartir una historia o anécdota que resalte tus aportes al equipo!

R: Mi rol consiste en administrar las cuentas de redes sociales de La Paz, crear el contenido que compartimos como organización, mantener el sitio web actualizado, ¡y mucho más! Aunque paso la mayoría del tiempo detrás de una pantalla, tengo el privilegio de dejar que mi creatividad florezca a través de mi trabajo.

Una de mis tareas favoritas es tomar fotos en los eventos y programas de La Paz. Me encanta conectar con los miembros de la comunidad y poder capturar momentos especiales que comparte el resto de la comunidad entre ellos y nuestro equipo. Mi pasión es compartir las emociones y experiencias de la comunidad latina con respeto, dignidad e integridad.

P: ¿Qué es lo que más te entusiasma sobre el futuro de La Paz y el trabajo que realizas?

R: ¡Conectar con latinos en Chattanooga y más allá! Me emociona cada uno de nuestros grandes eventos, programas y reuniones comunitarias porque me permiten conectar con latinos de todo el estado ¡y de Georgia también! Me llena de alegría que La Paz pueda ofrecer un espacio donde la comunidad se reúna y podamos ser auténticamente nosotros mismos.

P: ¿Qué es algo que quisieras que cada miembro de la comunidad de Chattanooga supiera sobre La Paz o sobre las personas a las que sirve?

R: ¡Que todos somos más parecidos de lo que muchos creen! Al final del día, todos buscamos un hogar seguro, una familia cariñosa y estable, y el derecho a expresarnos libremente. Aunque vengamos de diferentes orígenes y tradiciones, todos somos personas que merecemos ser valoradas, celebradas y cuidadas.

R: ¡Apoyando a mi novio en sus partidos de fútbol, pasando tiempo con amigos o simplemente tejiendo en casa!
