This Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month, we’re honored to shine a light on the staff members who embody our mission — to empower and engage Chattanooga’s Latino population through advocacy, education, and inclusion. Q: Can you share a little about your professional background? 

A: I’ve worked in a few different areas, from retail to technical support, but once I heard about La Paz, I knew it was where I wanted to be. I love everything we stand for, and not just that, but also the culture we’ve created in the workplace. I can honestly say La Paz has been an amazing place for me.

Q: What led you to join the team at La Paz? How long have you been with the organization? 

A: I actually heard about La Paz through Instagram over five years ago. At the time, I wasn’t living in Chattanooga, but I followed everything they were doing to support Chattanooga's community. I loved their mission, their outreach, and the way they were spreading awareness. The work they were doing was something I had wished my parents had access to growing up. It was inspiring, and I could see myself wanting to be a part of it. This is now my third year!

Q: Tell me a little about the work you do each day. Feel free to share a story or vignette that highlights your contributions to the team! 

A: I’m the Operations and Administrative Coordinator, and my role is to help keep things running smoothly behind the scenes. I handle office and building needs, connect with vendors, manage some bookkeeping, and handle deposits, check requests and distributions, and invoices. I work closely with our outside accountant to make sure our money is distributed correctly! I also help track our donors and donations via our database. 

Every day is a little different. But one of my favorite parts of my job is helping with our fundraising events like the Latino Leadership Awards and Sangria on the Southside, and also helping prepare for our Block Party. Since I’m one of the few people who doesn’t work directly with clients, these events are a great reminder of why we do what we do and who we are helping. 

Q: What excites you the most about the future of La Paz and the work you do? 

A: I think what excites me the most is the growth. I am a part of that growth — when I started here, there were only about six to eight other employees, and as we have grown, we have added more departments and more people to be able to create bigger opportunities for our community.

Q: What’s one thing you wish every member of the Chattanooga community knew about La Paz or the people it serves? 

A: That the staff here is amazing — we genuinely care about our community and each other. Whether we’re client-facing or working behind the scenes, there’s so much heart in what each one of us does.

Q: Finish this sentence: When I’m not at work, I can be found ________________.

P: ¿Puedes compartir un poco sobre tu experiencia profesional?

R: He trabajado en varias áreas, desde ventas al por menor hasta soporte técnico, pero una vez que escuché sobre La Paz, supe que era donde quería estar. Me encanta todo lo que representamos, y no solo eso, sino también la cultura que hemos creado en el lugar de trabajo. Honestamente puedo decir que La Paz ha sido un lugar increíble para mí.

P: ¿Qué te llevó a unirte al equipo de La Paz? ¿Cuánto tiempo llevas en la organización?

R: De hecho, supe de La Paz por Instagram hace más de cinco años. En ese momento, no vivía en Chattanooga, pero seguía todo lo que hacían para apoyar a la comunidad de Chattanooga. Me encantaba su misión, su alcance comunitario y la forma en que creaban conciencia. El trabajo que estaban haciendo era algo que yo hubiera deseado que mis padres tuvieran acceso cuando yo era niño(a). Fue inspirador, y podía verme siendo parte de eso. ¡Ahora este es mi tercer año!

P: Cuéntame un poco sobre el trabajo que haces cada día. ¡Si quieres, comparte una historia o anécdota que destaque tu aporte al equipo!

R: Soy Coordinador(a) de Operaciones y Administración, y mi función es ayudar a que todo funcione sin problemas detrás de escena. Me encargo de las necesidades de la oficina y del edificio, me conecto con proveedores, manejo parte de la contabilidad y me ocupo de los depósitos, solicitudes de cheques, distribuciones y facturas. Trabajo de cerca con nuestro contador externo para asegurarme de que el dinero se distribuya correctamente. También ayudo a hacer seguimiento de nuestros donantes y donaciones a través de nuestra base de datos.

Cada día es un poco diferente. Pero una de mis partes favoritas del trabajo es ayudar con nuestros eventos de recaudación de fondos, como los Latino Leadership Awards y Sangria on the Southside, y también ayudar con la preparación de nuestra Block Party. Como soy una de las pocas personas que no trabaja directamente con los clientes, estos eventos son un gran recordatorio de por qué hacemos lo que hacemos y a quiénes estamos ayudando.

P: ¿Qué es lo que más te entusiasma sobre el futuro de La Paz y el trabajo que haces?

R: Creo que lo que más me emociona es el crecimiento. Soy parte de ese crecimiento: cuando comencé aquí, solo había entre seis y ocho empleados, y a medida que hemos crecido, hemos agregado más departamentos y más personas para poder crear mayores oportunidades para nuestra comunidad.

P: ¿Qué es una cosa que desearías que todos los miembros de la comunidad de Chattanooga supieran sobre La Paz o las personas a las que sirve?

R: Que el personal aquí es increíble — realmente nos importa nuestra comunidad y los unos a los otros. Ya sea que estemos atendiendo directamente a los clientes o trabajando tras bastidores, hay mucho corazón en lo que cada uno de nosotros hace.
